In March 2022 Joanne managed a quick visit to Sunshine Nursery School whilst completing some other work in The Gambia. As always the teachers and children were extremely welcoming and very busy. Whilst she was there it was the Independence Day celebrations in Brikama where around 100 Nursery Schools gathered together to celebrate by marching to a band. They had some lovely food and enjoyed some fun sports activity entertainment. During Joanne's time there, the long awaited electricity connection was completed and the school now has reliable source of power. A visit to the School garden was a must to see all the lovely produce they are now successfully growing; okra, peppers, aubergines, chillies to name but a few.

Joanne spent some time in Class 1 (the day care class) the children listened to a Gruffalo story read by Joanne and translated by Isatou the teacher, then they watched a Gruffalo cartoon downloaded to Joanne's laptop and finished the morning by colouring some Gruffalo characters to make a wall display.

A highlight of the visit was taking some PenPal letters and cards from a Primary School in the UK to the Grade 1 class. They loved receiving these letters and wrote their own replies and drew pictures for Joanne to bring back to the school. We hope this link can develop and grow into a great thing.
