THE JAMWELLY FOUNDATION
Sunshine School Library
In February 2026 Zoe visited Sunshine School with the vision of creating a library for the use by both the Nursery and Lower Basic school. Zoe is a Primary School teacher in the UK, with a passion for books and following creating a successful library at another school in Gambia, I was ecstatic when she agreed to visit Sunshine to transform a spare classroom into a super library.
Zoe carried out fundraising activities to raise money to buy books in The Gambia and using her carpentry contact from her previous project she requested specific shelving to be made and fitted in the classroom. We had the classroom painted a bright vibrant yellow and used spare tables and chairs to furnish it, along with a visit to a large second hand store to add rugs and cushions using the funds Zoe had collected.
The Lower Basic children made their own book mark to use when they had selected a book to read during their break times. Zoe ran a training session with all the teachers, to discuss how to use the library and get optimum usage by incorporating this into the school timetable.
After a week of sheer hard work and determination the Library was complete. A small opening ceremony was had, were members of the very appreciative village committee, teachers, children and some parents prayed for the success of the library and blessed all those involved in it's creation.
Huge thanks to Zoe for all her organisation, hard work and dedication. We will be forever grateful and hope to see you return to Sunshine School soon.
